Westforge Works performs abrasive blasting, surface preparation, powder coating and protective industrial coatings. Preparation and coating happen in the same workshop, so the finish is applied to a surface that has actually been prepared for it. Westforge is accepting work now.
Western Australian owned and operated, serving residential, commercial and industrial customers across the southern Perth, Rockingham and Peel regions — including Baldivis, Kwinana, Port Kennedy, Secret Harbour and Mandurah — and further afield where the work suits.
The Reason It Matters
Preparation decides how long the finish lasts
Most coating failures are preparation failures. Rust, mill scale, old paint, oil and dust all sit between the coating and the metal, and a coating bonded to contamination lifts, blisters or flakes long before the product itself would have failed.
Blasting removes that material and leaves an even surface profile for the coating to key into. Getting this right costs less than coating an item twice.
Remove
Rust, scale, existing coatings and contamination are blasted away rather than painted over.
Profile
The surface is left with an even key so the coating can mechanically bond to it.
Coat promptly
Prepared steel is coated before it starts to flash rust or pick up new contamination.

Common Questions
Coating and blasting questions, answered
Why does surface preparation matter?
A coating can only hold to the surface underneath it. Blasting removes rust, mill scale, old paint and contamination, and leaves a clean, evenly profiled surface for the coating to key into. Coating over a poorly prepared surface is the most common reason a finish fails early.
Is powder coating better than paint?
For most metal items exposed to handling and weather, powder coating gives a harder, more uniform and more consistent finish than wet paint. Where a job needs a specific protective system, an industrial or protective coating may be the better answer — we will say which suits the item.
Can you blast and coat in the same place?
Yes. Blasting, preparation and coating all sit in the same Westforge workshop, so items are not transported between separate suppliers and the prepared surface is coated before it deteriorates.
Can you trial a new or non-standard coating product?
Sometimes, subject to suitability. Where a project involves an unusual coating requirement, a new product, or a system that should be trialled before broader use, Westforge Works can assess the requirement and discuss a controlled trial or project-specific application. Each request is assessed individually, and this is practical workshop trial capability rather than laboratory certification.
Do you coat items fabricated elsewhere?
Yes. Items fabricated by other workshops, trades or manufacturers are welcome for blasting, preparation and coating, as is refinishing of existing metalwork where the item is sound.
